Show Molten Slag Car Showers Foundry SAULT STE. MARIE, Mont, Dec. 27 (UP) A railroad dump car carrying five tons of white hot molten slag overturned in the Algoma Steel Corp. plant here Friday morning, raining steel slugs like shrspnel at a foundry wall and ripping It to pieces. There were no injuries. Corp. Jack Wilson of the Sault Ste. Marie police said the railroad car came from the open hearth furnaces and dumped the slag into a snow pile, immediately chilling the steel in large, ragged pieces which in turn exploded and showered show-ered the entire plant The car fell toward the foundry, which bore ths brunt of the bombardment |
