He said auch permission per-mission was proper under the circumstances cir-cumstances and waa given. Bilbo claimed he received nothing, noth-ing, although he acknoledged that he conferred with Anslinger on Podesta's recommendation. Bilbo In- order to hear further testimony on an allegation that the Mississippi senator received money from a man who wanted help in obtaining narcotics. Ferguson told reporters he had telegraphed Chairman Mead (D., N. Y.) of the war Investigating subcommittee - requesting reopening reopen-ing of hearings on Monday. The Michigan senator disclosed his request as he emerged from a meeting of the Republican senator steering committee, called to con sider plans to bar Bilbo from his seat. Sen. Taft (R., Ohio), chairman of the steering group, said no final action waa agreed upon and would not be before next Monday because of the absence of Sen. Bridges (R., N. H.). Ferguson said he wanted to hear direct testimony from Dr. A. J. Podesta of Vicksburg, Miss.; Dr. James Logan and John Carr of Natchez,- Miss. The subcommittee has heard testimony that Carr, aged and ill, sought Bilbo's aid in getting a lawful, regular supply of narcotics, nar-cotics, and subsequently sent |
