Since the first Bingham boys entered sport circles, the Miner athletes have ranked high . and won the respect of friend and foe, while following them " everywhere has been a large crowd of sealous supporters. In that year the a now justly famous town, "five miles long and 50 feet wida," with (our widely separated groups of homaa inhabited in-habited by eome MOO persona, many at whom apok little or no English, produced a high school basketball team which lost but three of IS garnet, batUed Its way to the state champion- . , hip final, and emblaaoned the name of Bingham Canyon upon the sport record of Utah for all time. This team of 'IB, composed of three Swedes, two Englishmen, one American, Amer-ican, one Dane and one Irishman, won the Salt Lake district title and took runner-up position in the tournament tour-nament by defeating Heber and Sprlngvllle, then losing to Weber college, col-lege, ift-sa. LOST BT WHISKER The following year the Dan and the two Swedish boys returned and, together with an Irishman, another Dane and three boys of old American families, awept through to the newly formed Jordan district title, going to the tourney to down Snow Normal and Sprlngvllle, and lose the title to Davla by only a 17-20 count. Fifteen Fif-teen games were won and five lost in this brilliant bid for fame. In the .yeara which followed the Miners created what is probably the i moat Impressive 'basketball record of any school in the state, winning 19S games and losing SO, for It consecutive consecu-tive trips to the state tournament Twenty-four tourney games were won and 21 lost without aver winning the coveted title. Twice the Bing-hamltea Bing-hamltea came In second and twice third. Fifth and sixth places were each won once, seventh position twice. The district title became habit until the season of 1031. when th boys came in second, and last year, when, for th first tlm In their 14 years of play, they failed to reach th state meet. On their horn floor th Miners have been well nigh invincible. Twenty-nine practice and league games were won with no defeats In the first four and one-half years. Then Jordan high broke the march in 1023 with a 33-30 win on the Bingham floor. The other schools to follow suit were Pleasant Grove, 20-20 In1 -i 1025; Murray, 50-41 In an overtime game In 1027; Ricks Normal, 37-28 In 1028; Ephralm. 20-13 In 1020; Sprlngvllle, Sprlng-vllle, 27-21 In 1031; Jordan. 34-23; Murray and Cyprus in 1032; and South. 48-28, this yesr.
