It OP) A general storm that harried the Pacific coast last night relaxed its grip In Washington and CallfornU today, but weather bureau forecaitt predicted new assaults of snow in tha north and more rain In California by tonight to-night or tomorrow. Air line traffic waa delayed or halt-ad halt-ad from tha Canadian to the Mexican borders, trsin schedules were slowsd In Washington and Oregon, motor stages were stalled and snow laden communication lines snapped. The dsy begsn clear and cold in Washington, Wash-ington, but mora snow or rain was forecast for later in tha day. Snow waa general throughout Oregon, Ore-gon, with attendant traffic accidents, disrupted communications and stalled transportation. The weather bureau aaw no cessation of the storm today. Two fatalities directly attributable to the storm were reported in Oregon and two others In Washington. Clearing weather with Intermittent rains throughout Cslifornia was predicted, pre-dicted, with tha expectation tomorrow tomor-row win bring another downpour. Snow drove far to the south over California'! Cali-fornia'! highlands yesterday, depositing deposit-ing 11 Inches at Yosemlta, IS at Long Barn, II at Strawberry lake and two feet at Quincy. The upper Sacramento Sacra-mento valley received a light snowfall snow-fall and there were flurries of snow in Sacramento. Rains, moving southward, drenched the valleys and reached at far aa Los Angeles. Probable rain tomorrow was forecast In southern California, but clearing weather in the north, with mora rain Friday, was predicted. |
