Americans made sharp recoveries in London this morning on the expectation that the Secretary Sec-retary of the Treasury would take measures meas-ures to relieve the money market. The advance was reflected in the international list at the opening here. Southern Pacific. Canadian Pacific and St. Paul were carried car-ried up 1 each. Amalgamated Copper rose about a point, and Anaconda 3. Dealings In some of these stocks were in 1000 share blocks and upward. Elsewhere In the list there were some declines. American Ice preferred broke 1. and Minneapolis A St. Louis a point. Trading was very Irregular for the first hour on a large volume of business. Opening gains were yielded. Amalgamated, Anaconda, the local tractions New York Central, Missouri Pacific and Rock Island receded a point from the best. Net losses of as much were scored by Sugar, General Electric Elec-tric and some other stocks, and Westing-house Westing-house Electric lost S. Traders covered freely at the lowest, and the market rebounded re-bounded sharply, some of the active leaders lead-ers recovering to the top level. Southern Pacific rose to 1 over last night. The market then became dull. The absence of liquidation and the marking of call loans at 6 per cent helped to keep prices at a high level. Prices, however, constantly -fluctuated above and below last night's level. At the top level of the second hour Southern Pacific, Baltimore Bal-timore & Ohio. New York Central. Rock jniana, Aicmson, jvorm western, lmjlo Erie & Western, the Cries, Chicago Great Western preferred "B" and International Power were about a point or more above last night. Third Avenue declined 4. After a ttlff reaction Southern Pacific rose to 63 Just before noon. I Bonds were irregular. The demand for stock abated somewhat after St. Paul had reached 168. Best prices in all cases were shaded later by realizing tales, but there was no important impor-tant pressure anywhere outside of St. Paul and New York Central, which reacted re-acted a point. The reaction was checked by a rise in Amalgamated to the best, but a drive against Southern Pacific, which carried it below 62 renewed the decline. Sugar reacted re-acted 1, and Erie second preferred a point. Iowa Central lost 1. Prices were better again before 2 o'clock. A turn against the shorts In Metropolitan Metropoli-tan caused a jump of 2 over last night. St. Paul rose an extreme 2 and Missouri Pacific, Reading and Brooklyn Transit got 1 point over last night. Minneapolis & St. Louis rose 2, Delaware A Hudson 1 and Colorado Fuel 1. Southern Pacific and St Paul, also Metropolitan Street Railway then fell back a point. Prices hardened again.
