Show ! URGES SEGREGATION OF BOYS AND GIRLS. 1 , ... . .. . . ' . ; CHICAGO, March 1L The difference In degrees of maturity between boys and girls in the freshman year is a fundamental reason for the se- gregatlon, according to a statement just issued by Dr. W. R. Harper, president of the University of Chicago. Dr. Harper says: . "When thrown together In a new environment on entrance to the unl- verslty, boys and girls become conscious of differences before unnoticed, and the personal element crops In too strongly for the best work. In the secondary school this Is not the case, for the reason that the boys and girls there have been growing up together and do not notice that one group matures earlier than the other." 1 . |
