Show MARKET: WAS INACTIVE; : STOCKS WERE FIRM The stock market fell back into Its old state of Inactivity again today, the vclume of business being; oaly half of yesterday's amount Stocks were firm with few exceptions, and most of the trading was in the cheaper properties. The morning call recorded the sale of 30,663 shares at 110,867. ' A sale of 10 shares of Amalgamated Sugar (preferred) was made it 97.50 during the call of the industrial in-dustrial stocks. . Among the mining stocks Grand Central showed the greatest tendency downward, dropping from yesterday's $5.60 mark to $5.40. South Swansea was active on the open board, selling 4500 shares ranging downward from 21 to 20. Boss Tweed and Victor, consolidated yesterday as the Victor Consolidated, were both called and sold at the same figure, 2000 shares going at -27 cents. Daly West was noticeably stronger, keeping well above $39. Daly sold 400 at $3 and Lower Mammoth released 800 all close to 57. Sacramento was the heaviest seller on the board, releasing a total of 7700 all above 28 cents. Martha Washington sold 4000 at 6 cents and Wabash 100 at 33. Naildrlver opened at $1.80 but recovered to $1.90. Utah braced up to 69 cents, the highest figure recorded in that stock for several months. The closing quotations and list of sales follow: AFTERNOON" CALL. Daly West continued toward the $40-mark" on the afternoon call, selling 275 at $39.65 and 25 at f 39.60, seller thirty days. Daly went to $2.94 with a sale of 100 shares. Grand Central was of- '-4 fered at $5.45 with no takers. f May Day came to the point with a sale of 2500 shares. 2000 at 17 f cents, and 600 at 17 cents, seller -f thirty days. South Swansea re- -f leased 600 at 20 cents. Utah held -f -f firmly above 69 cents, dropping 100 at 69 cents. Uncle Sam Consolidated sold ,-f -f 600 at 24 cents, and California dropped 2200, opening with a sale of 500 at 8 cents, and closing at -f 7 cents, the lowest figure reached by that stock since It struck the toboggan a few weeks ago. Martha Washington sold 1000- at 6 cents, and New York fol- lowed with 500 at 23 cents. Wabash released 2600 shares, 1100 -f at 33 cents, and 1500 at 33 cents. The shareholders of the Boss Tweed and the Victor mines met yesterday afternoon and took a formal vote on the consolidation agreement, recently made by the directors of the two companies. com-panies. The new company J s to be known as the Victor Consolidated, and is launched with a capitalization of $375,000, representing 750,000 shares, at a par value of 50 cents each. A real auction sale was held In the exchange-room this morning, when all the expensive showcases owned by the stock association were closed out to the highest bidders. The total amount realized out of the sale was $238, which added to the $315 received for the ore samples which were sent to the smelter brings the sum up to $553. Among the fortunate ones to secure the showcaws were Henry Newell, Broker Child, H. B. Cole and Broker West. j METAL QUOTATIONS. f Silver dropped to 49 cents to- -f day, but copper held at 13 cents. MINING NOTES. The ore and bullion settlements yesterday yes-terday amounted to $90,100. The cent assessment on Old Colony stock became delinquent yesterday. The Old Evergreen Mining company, located between Big Cottonwood and Little Cottonwood, has levied an assessment as-sessment of 3 cents a share, or $3000. William Davidson, a prominent mining mi-ning operator of this State, will leave this month to assume the management of the Caribou group of mines in Ophir, Cal. Manager H. V. Croll of the local branch of the Allls-Chalmers company announces that after March 20th he will be located at 209 South West Temple. Tem-ple. James W. Nelll. consulting engineer of the Tintic Mining and Development company, left for the Eeast today. The new smelter at the Utah A Eastern East-ern company's Dixie mines has not yet been put in commission owing to several sev-eral accidents. J. D. Wood, it is said, has Just lately bought 20,000 shares of stock In the Thompson Mining company. " The Conklln sampler received nine cars of ore from Tintic today. NEW SETTLING BASIS OF $3.75 FOR LEAD. The American Smelting and Refining company yesterday afternoon marked the settling price of lead in the local market up to $3.75 per 100 pounds, an advance of 25 cents a hundred on the former basis. The increase will amount to $5 per ton, and on Utah's usual monthly output of 4000 tons the gain to local producers will aggregate $20,000. On Utah's silver output. which amounts to 1,500,000 ounces per month, the recent advance in the price of that metal means $30,000 to Utah mines monthly, and the advance on the settling set-tling price of copper represents approximately ap-proximately $40,000, which brings the monthly profits of Utah mines up $90.-000 $90.-000 since the first of the year. The advance made in lead was purely voluntary on the part of the smelter management, and was in line with the company's intention to redeem all its pledges made at the time it consolidated consoli-dated the local smelting interests. Manager Whitley, the local representative representa-tive of the company, declares that the price will affect everybody the same, both those who have contracts with the Bmelter company on the former settling basis and those who have not entered Into any agreement. WAGES CUT AT THE DALY. PARK CITY, March 11. Superintendent Superin-tendent Rood of the Daly made a flying trip to camp yesterday and took a peep at the new ore bodies being opened up in this old bonanza that has passed The South Swansea shareholders will draw down $9000 tomorrow as the last part of a dividend declared in February, Febru-ary, 1901. The annual meeting of the Majestic Mining company will be held in Denver Den-ver on May 4th. The fiscal agents of the company have announced that hereafter the treasury stock will be cold at $10. . March 1L The annual meeting of the stockholders of the American Ameri-can Tobacco company was held in Jersey City today. The old board of directors was re-elected.
