Cochran, irr porter of fine horses, came near losing his Percheron stallion. Governor Mount, yesterday In a horse swindle. A stranger presented himself, purportjng to be George Kennedy, a Canadian Cana-dian horse-buyer. After looking over the Cochran stock he took a fancy to. Governor Mount, and the deal was made, Kennedy agreeing to pay 11600 spot cash for the animal. He had Cochran go with him to the telegraph office and wired a Montreal bank for 11500. Cochran followed this message, with an Inquiry In-quiry as to his buyer's standing. . The horse was loaded In a car when an , answer came to Cochran's telegram indicating indi-cating that the Canadian was a fraud. -The swindler learned In the meantime that his game hsd been exposed, and managed to evade arrest. It develops that he tried tbe same game on Crouch A Co., Lafayette Importers, the first of the week. |
