Show FREE TEXT-BOOK BILL GETS THROUGH SENATE Upon motion of Senator Barnes the rules were suspended and House bill 19 passed yesterday by a vote of 15 to 2. It provides "for the care of stray animals by the County Commissioners. House bill , providing for free school text books In districts outside of cities of the first and second classes, except to high schools, passed by unanimous vote. Senate bill 179, relating to reservoir reser-voir projects and for the selection of two reservoir sites, passed by a vote of 1J to 3. Barber, Lawrence and Whltmore cast the negative votes. House bill 50 came back amended from the conference committee and passed as amended. A radical flaw was discovered in the kindergarten bill after all the discussion discus-sion by ail the women interested, and after the bill had passed both houses and reached the hands of the engrossing engross-ing clerk. It was that the bill makes no provisions for kindergartens in cities of the first and second classes. It was recalled on motion of Bamberger, Bam-berger, and an effort will be made to have it amended and repassed. In addition to substitutes for other bills the Senate yesterday received and referred thaee new bills, bringing the total number up to 200. No. 197, by Love, Is Intended to provide free school text books In the schools of cities of the first and second classes. Nos. 198 and 199, by Lawrence, are intended to amend the laws relating to municipal courts for the special benefit of Ogden. No. 194 empowers the Boards of County Commissioners to levy a tax of 1 mill for the care and support of the sick and indigent poor. It also raises the school tax limit to 4 mills. Senate bill IBS Is a substitute for Senate Sen-ate bill 155. and relates .to the trial of civil actions arising outside" the State. Senate bill 194 Is substituted for S louse bills 65, 123 and 175 and 8enate 111 55, and relates to the powers and duties of County Commissioners. The time for which franchises may, be granted is fixed at fifty years in the substitute bill. Senate bill 200 is a substitute sub-stitute for House bin 113 and Senate bill 184, providing for a State chemist |
