For :the first time in the history of j the Alta club there was a dinner given Friday night which was undisturbed by the growls of the oldest Inhabitants of the club's upper chambers and the reckless reck-less dropping of shoes on bedroom floors had little effect. The alumni of the University of Utah banqueted the members of the 'varsity team, and for the first time In history noise went unrebuked within the sacred portals of the club. Judge William H. King was toastmaster. and the speakers during the evening were Senator Rawlins, Raw-lins, Dr. Plummer,- President Kings- , bury of the University, Prof, Eaton of the athletic advisory board. Judge Lewis, Lew-is, Ji. G. Whitney. Coach Maddock, Cari Wade, John Jensen, Will Ray, Otr1 f .Carlson and Waldemar Van Cott. Mr. Van Cott announced that the State would appropriate 160,000 for a gymnasium, gymna-sium, to be built Inside the next yeir, and this statement was received with every sign of Joy, as it is firmly believed that the Legislature-elect and the Governor-elect have communicated their intention to Mr. Van Cott by some new . system of telepathy.
