Show ACTIVE IN WALLSTREET NEW YORK, Dec. S. The stock market mar-ket opened active and , higher today. Four thousand shares of Amalgamated Copper sold at an advance of 1. Hide and Leather preferred and Federal Mining preferred made gains of 1. The weight of realizing sales In Amalgamated Amal-gamated Copper, which carried It back to near yesterday's closing checked the rise temporarily, but after the market had assimilated these offerings the advance ad-vance was continued. Heavy purchases of Ontario & Western Imparted life Into the dealings and there was a keen demand for a variety of other stocks. The Western stocks did not show much Improvement, but the Southern and Eastern groups were absorbed at considerably con-siderably higher prices. There was some hesitation in the price movement, but some stocks touched a new high record for the year. United States vSteel preferred fold at 95, and Lackawanna touched 343. Louisville & Nashville became erratic There were gains of a point In New York Central, Delaware & Hudson, Erie second preferred. Southern railway preferred, pre-ferred, Chicago Terminal, Hocking Valley Val-ley and railroad securities. Rock Island Is-land preferred rose 1, P., C. C. & St. L., 2V4. Losses of 1 to 1 were scored by Northwestern. Parter preferred, Virginia Vir-ginia Iron and the United Railway Investment In-vestment stocks. After the bank statement some stocks were pushed upwards, but profits were taken In others. A few stocks got below be-low last night, notably St. Paul and Louisville & Nashville.
