As soon as the department found the cause of the alarm it at once went back to the headquarters. Now. however, comes the queer part of the occurrence. A gentleman in the Progress block, attracted at-tracted by the gongs of the department, lcoked over to Commercial street, and as the window at which he stood overlooks the roof of the Uintah hotel, he was able to see that there was a small blaze on the roof. As no fireman appeared, he notified the department where the blaze was, and the alarm was turned In a second sec-ond time, and a second run made to Commercial Com-mercial street. The Are was soon extinguished without damage, but had the man at the messenger messen-ger box not rung the wrong call It Is very likely that the blaze would have gotten such a start before lt was discovered as to have done much damage. |
