Because he was unable to resist the temptation to wear finery alleged to have been stolen, Henry Thomas, a negro. ne-gro. Is In the city Jail awaiting trial on a charge of housebreaking. ' A few days ago W. H. Peters, R. A. Hutchinson and Alfred Clark, employed oh a Rio Grande bridge gang working near Salt Lake, reported to the police that their car had been broken open and personal property valued at $100 stolen. . The three men went to a theater Thursday night, and after they were seated, a flashily dressed negro entered i f and took a seat next to them. The men quickly saw that the man was wearing j vest which they say had been stolen irom the car. Presently he pulled a watch out of his pocket and It was their opinion that the watch was also the property of one of the men. Then the negro's fingers wandered to his cravat, pin, and he straightened it up a little. The attention of the three was attracted y this movement to the pin, and they claim to have recognised It also as their property. - Then there was a consultation, and one of the men left the theater and found a policeman, who took Thomas to Jail, without waiting for him to see the end of the play. When taken before the Chief of Police Thomas is said to have admitted that he robbed the car. |
