OILING THE HIGHWAYS THE HE state road commission In considering withdrawal entirely from the business of oiling the highways and letting that particular lar work out to private contractors has probably probably probably ably found from experience that the contract form Corm is more advantageous in the long run This years year's task calls for the oiling of miles of highway In Utah for which the state has on hand It is a job that should be 00 done as eJ expeditiously as possible for the reason that between Salt Lake and the coast on either the northern or southern route there Is more graveled roadway in Utah than in any o of t the s states 1 s traversed If the summers summer's flood of motor traffic augmented by the Olympic games and va vaLious various va- va rious Lious national conventions on the coast shall be as great as is anticipated the comparison of highways s 's cannot possibly redound to Utah's credit for the reason that there still exist long stretches of roadway in this state still Heretofore the state has been doing a portion portion portion por por- tion of the oil work and letting contracts for forthe forthe forthe the remainder If the history shows that this work can be d done ne more cheaply and more expeditiously under private contract the state highway commission should not hesitate to advertise for bids and still keep a strict supervision over the work
