Show DAWSON BLAMES COST INCREASE TO FOREIGN AID If high living costs in the United States are to be reduced, congress must keep a careful scrutinizing eye focused on foreign expenditures, expendi-tures, Rep. William A. Dawson (R., Utah) asserted Monday on his return to Utah from Washington. Wash-ington. Recognizing the need for foreign aid, Mr. Dawson nevertheless maintained that "this country should not be impoverished through inflation to help the rest of the world. If we expect to bring prices down we must be careful in shipping out materials which are short here," he said. The Utah congressman said the voted for the European recovery plan for one year "to see how it will work." But he .pointed to the danger of keeping prices up through continued large foreign shipments of such critical items as building materials, steel, automobiles automo-biles and trucks. He supported the Taft-Hartley law as a sound measure which "took' a little power away from the labor leader and gave it to the 1 working man." If any working man can show he has been hurt by the law, "I will be glad to vote for a change," he said, pointing out that he has been unable to find any so far. The congressman said he expects ex-pects a Republican landslide nationally na-tionally in November elections, but isn't so sure about the state. The uncontested GOP candidate for reelection said he anticipates a "very hard fight." |
