Show SPRINGVILLE GIRL REPORTED FIRST '48 POLIO VICTIM Utah county's first 1948 case of infantile paralysis a five - year-old year-old SpringviUe girl has been officially of-ficially reported to the state board of health, and the child is now receiving re-ceiving treatment at the polio ward of the Salt Lake General hospital. The report was received on the state department of health Utah county listings for the week ending end-ing Jan. 23. Nurses at the district health office in Provo said the case was discovered on Jan. 2. It is a bulbar spinal condition, regarded re-garded as the most serious polio type. The minor chickenpox epidemic which has been underway for several sev-eral months continued in Utah county during the week ending Jan. 23, with 14 new cases reported, six in Provo and the balance elsewhere else-where in the county. Also listed were five new cases of ringworm of the scalp in Provo, and four cases of whooping cough at other county points. The county also listed a new case of tuberculosis and one of measles. |
