Thorn, Springville board member. mem-ber. The letter was sent at the suggestion sug-gestion of the school board, following fol-lowing an investigation and complaint com-plaint toy a number of Springville grocerymen, who found that practically prac-tically all of the supplies or groceries grocer-ies used for Springville school children's chil-dren's lunches, were being purchased pur-chased in Spanish Fork and sent to Springville. The lunch program, including purchasing of groceries, is under the direct supervision of the superintendent. The letter is as follows : "At a regular meeting of the Board of Education held Wednesday, Wednes-day, January 21st, the board reaffirmed re-affirmed their policy of having the meats, groceries and supplies that are purchased through the local retail merchants for use in the school lunch, purchased only from the various merchants in the communities com-munities where the lunches are to be served. This business is to be rotated among the various merchants mer-chants in each community who desire de-sire to share in the school lunch business. , "It is the desire of the Board of Education that the local merchants supply these items on a competitive competi-tive basis, giving consideration to granting as liberal a school discount dis-count on the items purchased as it is within their power to grant. "In billing the items sold to the school lunch, the amount and the price per pound, or unit price, should always be shown on the sales slip." |
