Show Mapleton DSA Goes to Hugh Hjorth, Plumber Key-Men Awards Presented To Glen Nielson And Neill )Vhiting In Recognition Of Outstanding Activities In Jaycee Club To Hugh Hjortli. operator of a plumbing and electrical business, and prominent in LDS church and civic activities at Mapleton. was given tke annual Distinguished Service Award, offered by the Mapleton' Jaycees for the outstanding young man of Mapleton during 1947. The award was made at a banquet ban-quet and program, attended by a large group of Jaycees and their partners, city officials and other citizens, Wednesday evening of the past week at the Mapleton town hall. Mr. Hjorth, in partnership in tjie firm which bears his name, is first counselor in the bishopric of the Mapleton ward. He is also a member mem-ber of the Boy Scout committee. While he is not affiliated with the Mapleton Jaycee club, he takes prominent part in community activities. ac-tivities. The presentation was made by Mayor Tew. Highlighting the evening also was presentation of two key-men awards given in recognition of outstanding out-standing activity in the Jaycee club the past year. These awards went to Glen Nielson and Niell Whiting, and were presented by Jack Canto, club president, and Elmo El-mo Jensen. Mayor J. W. Gillman of Orem addressed the gathering, stressing the industrial development of the value of young leadership in Utah county. Miss Peggy Cran-dall Cran-dall entertained with a musical reading. The meeting was arranged by Chairman Fred Jensen. Ross Hall was toastmaster, with President Jack Canto presiding. The banquet was served by the Seventies Quorum of the Mapleton ward. |
