Show CHECK YOUR CAR FOR SAFETY WARNS USC HEAD "Check your car . . . check accidents" acci-dents" is the May slogan of a continuing con-tinuing program aimed at saving lives on the highways of Utah. "The brakes of your car can mean the difference between life and death," said Mr. George H. Lowe, President of the Utah Safety Council. "Lots of people realize that. But, still it's deplorable de-plorable how many motorists continue con-tinue to drive with poor brakes. Other car parts, too, can be life savers. Lights, windshield wipers, tires, steering and wheel alignment, align-ment, the muffler and exhaust system, the glass, rear-view mirror and horn all are important to safety." The Utah Safety Council is urging urg-ing all motorists to keep their cars in safe operating condition as one means of preventing losses from traffic accidents. This project for May is part of. the year-'round Operation Safety program in which several local groups are cooperating co-operating with The Council as the coordinating agency. The continuing continu-ing effort is part of a nation-wide traffic safety education promotion of the National Safety Council. "Your life and the lives of others may depend on whether or not your car is kept in safe operating condition," Mr. Lowe said. Vehicle defects were contributing factors in 18 per cent of all fatal traffic accidents, according to reports from state traffic authorities. Yet this figure does not tell the whole story. Information on vehicle condition con-dition is available in less than half of all reported fatal cases.' "So check your car . . . check accidents . . . and save a life." |
