Show Utah Lake Reaches Highest Level In Twenty Four Years Although Utah lake is higher now than at anytime in the past 24 years-within about five inches of compromise pointsits level has been fairly well stabilized for the Dast 515 days, according to Charles Madsen, member of the lake control con-trol board. Reduction of the flow from Deer Creek and opening of the Jordan river outlet gates has resulted in the stabilizing of the lake, Mr. Madsen said. He warned that it may rise "another three or four inches," but that it is hoped it can be controlled within these limits barring an exceptionally heavy spring runoff. Famers in the west Provo area are protected this year by two privately pri-vately constructed dikes the Skipper Skip-per dike about three-fourths of a mile long north of the river, and the Knudsen dike, about a half-mile half-mile in length, south of the river. The Skipper bay dike was built three years ago and the Knudsen dike last year. The two dikes are protecting a total of nearly 300 acres. ' In the Springville and Spanish Fork areas, some farm land is being be-ing flooded and more is being soaked by sub-irrigation from the lake waters. A dike in the Spanish Span-ish Fork area broke some time ago, flooding 160 acres, but farmers farm-ers immediately went to work patching it and pumping the water out. |
