Show 'FURNACE AT IRONTON SCHEDULED TO START WITHIN WEEK The Kaiser-Frazer blast furnace at Ironton completely rehabilitated rehabili-tated after four years of idleness will be "blown in" during the week beginning May 2, E. J. Duffy, Duf-fy, operations superintendent, said today. The date is conditioned on the assurance of a steady supply of coal, which now seems likely if Carbon county miners remain at work. The plant, which will employ em-ploy slightly more than 200 people at its Ironton operations, opera-tions, can reach normal output out-put in about six weeks from the date of "blowing in," Mr. Duffy said. Purchased from the war assets administration by the Kaiser-Frazer Kaiser-Frazer Parts corporation, the war-built war-built plant has undergone an extensive ex-tensive rehabilitation and renovation reno-vation program during the past two months. It was shut down in early 1944 after a brief operational period of about nine months. I . Mr. Duffy said he is leaving for Carbon county tomorrow, where the plant's 500 accessory beehive coke ovens are located, and if a steady supply of coal is assured he will begin immediately to direct the lighting up of all ovens. About 75 workers will be employed at the coke ovens under normal I operation. |
