Show PROVO, WASATCH WIN STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS Spanish Fork Dons Play Well To Pla:e Third; 16-Teum B Tourney Asked For 1945 The 1944 high school basketball tournaments Class A and Class B concluded last Saturday night with the. crowning of Provo high school as Class A champs, and Wasatch high school of Heber, as the Class B champs. Provo defeated de-feated Box Elder 35-28 for the title while Wasatch was overcoming a three-quarters - lead piled up by opposing Murray to win 30-24. Nebo's lone representative, Spanish Fork High, came within one point of winning the state pennant when "Fate" dropped them out of the championship game by one lone foul pitch Friday Fri-day night against Wasatch. The Dons trounced Lehi 41-28 to place third In the meet. The Dons were considered by many fans as the top team In B class play, which all goes to show that Nebo teams were much stronger this year and either one of the top teams in the district could have made a strong bid for the title. Inauguration of a 16-team B tournament for the 1945 season would, and should be, made to give more of the large number of B schobls competing in the hoop sport, a chance in the popular state tourney. A schools, which number a little more than half as many teams as were entered en-tered in the A tourney, should be well satisfied with the present tourney set-up. Here's how the two tourneys finished: Class B First Wasatch Second Murray Third Spanish Fork Fourth Monroe Fifth Lehl Sixth Dixie Class A First Provo Second Box Elder Third Davis Fourth uranite Fifth Weber Sixth East |
