Show Our Servicemen . . Mapleton Man At Camp Roberts, Cal. Pvt. Harold J. Hopla, son of Mrs. Mabel S. Hopla of Mapleton, is now receiving specialized training in the 7th Armored Division's Foods Service School at Camp Roberts, Calif. Pvt. Hopla was chosen for his specialized training on the basis of aptitude and ability. A. A. Max Allen was recently transferred from Texas to San Diego, Calif., and the USS Boxer where he is serving as an airman apprentice. ' Pvt. Hal Eugene Perham, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. F. Perham of 271 East 3rd North is now taking infantry basic, training with the 7th Armored Division at Camp Roberts, Calif. Private Perham will train at Camp Roberts under the army's most advanced basic educational set-up. With the 40th Infantry Division in Japan Robert D. Allan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald N. Allan, who was recently promoted to the rank of private first class, is serving ser-ving in Japan with the 40th Infantry In-fantry Div. The California National Guard unit, called to active duty in Sept., 1950, is currently undergoing intensive in-tensive combat training. It has been strengthened by the addition of men from all parts of the United States. Allan is a platoon messenger in mortar company, 160th Infantry Regiment. Sgt. Sam Wheeler has been given giv-en an honorable, discharge from the army, having recently been stationed with the 145th F. A. National Na-tional Guard unit at Fort Sill. Okla. He has been in the army 14 months in addition to service during dur-ing World War 11. Shortly after returning re-turning to Springville, Sam called in at the Herald office to express his thanks for the home town newspaper which he has been .receiving .re-ceiving regularly through the cooperation co-operation of Ralph Child and the Springville Herald. Dale Diamond, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Diamond of this city, arrived home recently with an honorable hon-orable discharge from the airforce in which he has served the past four years. He enlisted in November Novem-ber 1947 and received his discharge last week. Most of the four years he has been stationed at Kessler Field, Mississippi. He has been stodying radar. Dale called at the Herald office today to express his appreciation for the Springville Herald. Glenn W. Coffman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn ,W. Coffman of this city, was home this week for a .short visit enroute to Fort Lewis. Wash. He has been stationed near Las Vegas, Nev. with the servicemen service-men making the atomic tests. I Allan Wingate is spending a 10-day furlough with relatives and friends in Springville. His wife, tho former Barbara Braun went to Camp Roberts, Calif., to visit Allan and arrived there just two days before.- he was given a furlough. fur-lough. She returned to Springville with him. Allan ' will return to Camp , Robgerts for . a refresher course at leadership school before being transferred. Robert Thorpe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Thorpe, has enlisted in the air-corps and is leaaving today to-day for his basic training. Russell Martain and Carl W. Lopez are taking boot training at San Diego, Calif., having enlisted in the navy on October 8. Russell is the1 son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Martain and Carl is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Lopez. |
