Show Important Changes In Springville Telephone Service Scheduled Soon d. Important changes in telephone service late this year which will extend the area in which calls can be made from Springville without payment of toll charges, were announced an-nounced today by the Public Service Ser-vice Commission and the Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company. Under the proposed service arrangement ar-rangement long distance charges will be eliminated for all calls between be-tween Springville and Provo, and between Springville and Spanish Fork. This means that calls from Springville telephones will be made on a toll-free basis to over 12,500 telephones, including the Provo and Spanish Fork exchanges, as compared with 1,750 telephones at the present time. The speed of service between the exchanges involved will be improved im-proved because of the elimination of ticketing and timing operations which are necessary under the present service arrangement. It is expected that the number of calls between Springville and Provo, Pro-vo, and between Springville and Spanish Fork, will more than double as a result of the change, thus greatly increasing the value of telephone service to subscribers. Additions to telephone facilities (Continued on Page Two) Changes In Telephone Service To Be Made Continued from Page One) are being made in the telephone offices at Springville, Provo and Spanish Fork, and between the three offices, to handle the expected ex-pected increase in the volume of inter-city calling, as well as to improve the speed of completion of these calls. Subject to the approval ap-proval of the Public Service Com-; Com-; mission of Utah, the rates established estab-lished for each exchange will be based upon the number of telephones tele-phones in the local calling area in each case. Extensions of local calling areas also will be made for telephone customers in Spanish Fork and Payson. Long distance charges on calls between Spanish Fork and Payson will be eliminated. "Springville and its neighboring towns have close community interests in-terests with one another," J. L. Bickmore, Provo district manager of the Mountain States Campany said. "The discontinuance of toll charges for calls from Springville to adjoining exchanges, will meet this growing need for a telephone plan adapted to the requirements of people in this area." |
