Show 250 il! TRUCKS MOJO UTAH Road Commission Intends Taking All Supplies Available. So liberal is tbe war department In its offers of trucks built for the army to state road commissions for use in public works that the state of Utah ap'pears to be entitled to nearly 250 oC such trucks, of two-ton or more capacity. The state must pay costs of freight and loading, which will run between $175 and $200 per truck, making these trucks cost the state between $45,000 and $50,000. This is in addition to trucks of three-qUarter ton capacity or less, the exact available number num-ber of which has not been determined. The state of Nevada found, the freight bill so heavy that it preferred not to accept ac-cept its full allotment of trucks, and in place of ordering even a greater number allowed to that state than to Utah, asked to be furnished with only 125. Other military supplies liable to become out of date within a few years, and to deteriorate If used only for storage, are also to be made available to state road commissions, and lists of many such have ! already come, with many more lists to ! follow, it is promised. ; So far the state road commission has I declared that it will take all , the trucks '. the federal government may allot to the : state, and, according to federal regulations, regula-tions, these amount to about 1.17 per cent of the entire amount available. There are 5000 new and 1000 used two-ton trucks available; 500 new quadruple drive two-ton two-ton trucks, 4000 new three-ton trucks and 4100 used three-ton, ton trucks and 900 ! new five-ton trucks. The state's share 1 of these, it has been calculated, would be 243 trucks. Request has been sent by telegraph for the full allotment. The state has aiso asked for its allotment of surveying sur-veying Instruments and similar supplies, I but did not care to take the full allotment ! of harness available. It is stipulated by the federal govern-i govern-i ment that the state shall pay the cost of loading and the freight on these materials. ; Further, they must be used in compliance compli-ance with the law, and in a reasonable , time. lThey mav not be sold, or other- ! wise encumbered, except that they may j be disposed of when they are valuable only as junk. It is quite possible that the state will find a way to rent these trucks out to i the various counties in such a manner ! that the conditions of the federal gov- j ernment's gift will be complied with and the freight bill be paid at the same time. |
