Show II LEGiSLATDHlS DEAD ATTWH FALLS Joseph B. Conover Passes Away After Illness of Several Weeks. Special to The Tribune. TWIN FALLS, Idaho, May S. Joseph B. Conover, 70 years old, a representative from Twin Falls county in the last Idaho legislature and commander of the local post of the Grand Army of the Republic, died at 1 o'clock this afternoon at hi3 home, following a several weeks' illness resulting from gallstones, for which he recently underwent an operation. Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Baptist church. Ii. H. Barnes, former commandant com-mandant of t:io s Idaho soiditM-s, who served with Mr. Conover in the Eighty-fifth Eighty-fifth Illinois regiment of volunteers in the civil war, will direct the ritualistic services ser-vices fur the G. A. 11. A firing squad and bugler selected from among returned soldiers will assist, in the ceremonies at tiie cemetery. As a member of the Idaho legislature last winter, Mr. Conover was the author of the measure appropriating lu,uu0 for the improvement of the state park at Shoshone Sho-shone falls as a service men's memorial. His political experience prior to this time had been limited to one term as treasurer of Mason county, Illinois, to which he was elected in 1 SG9. Having served throughout the civil war, and losing his right arm as a result of a wound received at the battle of Peach Tree creek, July 22, 1S64, when he was captured by the enemy, Mr. Conover, In the fall of 1S7S, after five successive crop failures, was bankrupt, owing $0,000 and having lost his farm. He was advised to go into bankruptcy. He refused, obtained more credit, and three years later paid every dollar he owed. Having cleared his financial record, Mr. Conover sold the farm which he had regained re-gained fWid entered the grain business, with which he was identified for twenty-five twenty-five years. Prior to comkig to Twin Falls in !)13 he was for fourteen years overseer ol a 1-fOO-aere farm in Illinois. He was one of the large property owners of this county. Mr. Conover is survived by his widow, two sons, M. Howard and Marsha!!, and one daughter. Miss Bessie Conover. |
