Show WE MATTER 13 REFERREDTO GHABBE Property Owners Protest Proposed Center Street Improvement. The question of paving Center street, being resisted by the Utah Light & Traction Trac-tion company, was referred yesterday by ( the city commission to Commissioner A. H. Crabbe of the street department, with instruction to report Monday night. The deliberations of the commission yesterday on the question brought out the fact that protests against paving filed with the city recorder represent about G!s per cent of the abutting property. Protest by two-thirds is necessary to defeat the improvement, if the commission Is inclined in-clined to order the paving. A plea was made to the commission by H. F. Dicke. general manager of the traction company, that the commission should transfer paving activities to streets where no protests would be made. The company's contention is that it cannot afford af-ford to stand its share of the cost of I paving, and it has petitioned the public I take up its Center street track if tho pav- ' ing is undertaken. ! The matter of paving Bryan avenue, against which r 70 per cent protest has been filed, was also referred to Mr. ' Crabbe, to be reported back Monday nlyht. |
