Show DIVORCES DOUBLE IN ENGLAND AND WALES Many Returned Soldiers, It Is Said, Have Charged Their Wives With Infidelity. LONDON", Nov. 9. (By The Associated Press.) England and Wales have furnished fur-nished a record number of cases for the new term of the divorce court in November. No-vember. It Is expected that there will be about 2000 cases, or more than double the Total for any previous list. About half these will be brought by people of small means, who have taken advantage of the facilities offered by the official bureau which has been established since the war began to assist the poor people in obtaining relief in the divorce court without going to the heavy expense Which the ordinary procedure involves. There has been a steady Increase In the number of divorce cases in this country coun-try since the beginning of the war, and the problem has been receiving much public attention. Two parties have grown up, one favoring more liberal divorce laws, and the other decrying the growing number of separations of this kind. As to the cause of the Increase there is a divergence of opinion. Official records show that a lurge number num-ber of soldiers on returning from the war have Instituted suits against their wives on the ground of infidelity. The claim frequently has been made that the war has resulted in a decided lowering of moral standards. This Is denied emphatically em-phatically by D. Figur, of a firm of solicitors, so-licitors, who have more than 100 divorce cases coming up !n the next term, and who are handlnlg about 1000 in various stages. |
