Show FARMER VICTIM OF AWFUL CRIME SIOUX CITY, la., July 20. Shot through the head when he resisted a gang of five highwaymen on a Chicago & Northwestern freight train near On-awa, On-awa, Iowa, early this morning, John Xeland. a harvest hand, was thrown from the moving train and crippled for life, his body falling in such a position that his feet extenu'ed over the rails. One foot was completely severed and the other so badly mangled that amputation ampu-tation was necessary. Ho was brought to a Sioux City hospital. Neland's in-iuries in-iuries will not prove fatal, it is believed, be-lieved, but his condition is extremely serious through shock and weakness. |
