Facts that are of importance and interest in-terest to the public in general, and especially espe-cially Ui the traveling public, relative to i the new rules regulating travel and pas- i senger faj-es are contained in a circular that has been prepared and issued by ! San Francisco railroad officials in answer - to the thousand and one questions that people are asking about the effects of Director General McAdoo's new orders advancing passenger and freight rates ; throughout the country. ! In brief, the new railroad rules gov erning passenger traffic are as follows: All second-class and ' mixed-class fares are canceled. All one-way thirty-day or six-month six-month fares are canceled. All round-trip fares are canceled, except: Local summer excursion I fares, which will be increased 20 per cent over fares already published for ' the 1917 season. Ail round-trip tick- : ets purchased and partially used pre- vious to June 10 will be honored on ! and after June 10 only upon payment 1 of additional charges. ! The latter charges, when the ac- 1 commodations are used, will be as ; follows: Increased Forces. All fares quoted will apply only for transportation In coaches and chair cars. Extra charges for passage in sleeping cars or parlor cars (in addition ad-dition to regular Pullman car traffic), traf-fic), will be as follows: In standard sleeping cars or parlor cars, one-half cent per mile. In tourist sleeping ; cars, one-quarter cent per mile. All side-trip arrangements and optional op-tional routes are canceled. All one-way tickets are good only ! for continuous trip: no stop-overs. All commutation fares will bo ad-i ad-i vanced 10 per cent over present fares. Concerning Pullmans. I Minimum requirements for exclu sive use of drawing rooms or compartments com-partments or sections are as follows: Two adult tickets for use of a drawing room in sleeping car. Two adult tickets for use of a compartment com-partment in sleeping car. Five adult tickets for exclusive nse ; of drawing room in a parlor car. One and one-half tickets for use of a section. A fare of one cent per mile will be granted to soldiers or sailors in uni-- uni-- form presenting to ticket agents copy of furlough or leave of absence certificate. cer-tificate. This reduced rate is not granted to .' , short-term leaves or cannot be given in the absence of the certificates mentioned. Passengers en route on June 10 on one-way tickets will be carried to destination des-tination by continuous passage with-; with-; out additional charge. What Happens June 10. Round-trip tickets, portions of which have been used prior to June 10, or held by passengers en route on June 10, shall be honored in accordance accord-ance with original tariff conditions without additional payment, except that they will be subject to the same requirements as one-way tickets in respect to additional payment for passage in sleeping or parlor cars. Where a passenger makes stop-over on and after June 10, tickets will be honored from stop-over point only upon collection of additional charge's which have been mentioned above. Scrip, while it will continue to be on sale, will be honored at full oneway one-way first-class fare, and will not be subject to any refund. The first two rules mentioned above do not apply here, because the conditions regulated by them do not pertain over lines in this territory, it is explained by railroad officials, but the oilier rules set forth do apply here and elsewhere. |
