Losses incidental inciden-tal to the German push on the western front have made it imperative that more than $100,00,000 he subscribed during the coming campaign for funds with which to maintain Y. M. C. A. war service activities activi-ties at home and overseas, the annual meeting of the association's war council was told here today by Dr. John R. Mott, general secretary, who returned recently from France. The association has appropriated a half million dollars with which to replace the eighty-nine huts and dugouts lost by the British in Flanders and Picardy during the recent Hun drive. Within the last week more than 200 of these recreation centers back of the French lines have fallen into enemy hands. Dr. Mott declared. These also must be replaced. Securing an adequate supply of "man power" is a matter quite as vital to the association's work . as a well supplied treasury, the secretary said. It is planned that expansion of the association's work may be kept apace with the developments develop-ments of the army and navy, and to do this it will be necessary to transport overseas over-seas by September 4000 additional workers. work-ers. 1000 of whom should be women, he added. Enough men will be recruited 1 eventually, it is hoped, to allot one sec- j retary to each 300 fighting men. Dr. Mott stated. Workers now are being enrolled en-rolled at the rate of 190 monthly. The financial statement that the collected col-lected subscriptions from the two drives made last year, amounted on March 31 to $37,577,61. Of the overseas expends tures of $10.16S,710, the largest item was that of $8,600,702 on the work with the American expeditionary forces in England and France. Total expenditures ending March 31 here and abroad totalled $20,0S6, 378. The war work council this afternoon unanimously adopted a resolution of the budget committee that $100,000,000 be raised for the Y. M. C. A. work at home and abroad.
