The dist-riut exemption board yesterday cent fled sixty-three more names to the national army and, starting this morning, will hold morning1 and afternoon sessions in order that It may clear away as many of tiie certified men as possible before the second 40 por cent of the drafted men are ordered to entrain for the training camp at American Uake. The number num-ber of appeals coming: to the district exompiion board are on the increase on account of the different ways which are being devised by those who desire to escape es-cape the draft. Yesterday' the district board was in touch with as many of the local boards a.s was possible in order to clear away all mis-apprehensions in regard to sending send-ing out the 40 per cent who left last night for the training camp at American Lake. In a number of the counties changes were ma.de in the personnel at the last minute and as a result the district dis-trict board was kept busy informing the local voards that all matters in connection connec-tion with the sending out of their men were entirely within their own hands. Tho district board yesterday granted exemption to Morris Smoot Newill of Summit co u n ty , who had m ad e a m i s -take in the affidavit which he filed setting- out the date on which he was married. mar-ried. 'A certified copy of the marriage certificate and license were proffered to the board and it was shown that he had been married more than a year. The district board yesterday took the following action on claims for exemption which were filed before it: Grand county G. W. Truscot, H. A. Brown, George O. Patterson, Victor Roy Bush, T. S. Harper and George A. Lar-sen Lar-sen were denied exemption. W. P. Martin, Mar-tin, Jr., was granted exemption on the ground that he had dependents. Iron county A. S. Benson, A. D. Fret-well Fret-well and 1j. C. Dover were denied exemption. ex-emption. Hart Moxie and Tj. M. Davenport Daven-port were granted exemptions. Summit county R. A. Canaan, W. W. Archibald, G. C. Knight and TV. S. Round y were denied exemption by the , board. O. A. Peterson, I. J. Peterson, W. I J. Toy and J. J. Shanley were granted exemptions by the board on the ground of having dependents. The members of the district draft board sent a telegram to Senator William H. King last night, asking him to do hi3 utmost to aid in the passage of ' the soldiers' moratorium bill which is now before be-fore congress. This bill provides for extending ex-tending all financial obligations of tho drafted men of the United States army until the discontinuance of the war. |
