Fifty-one persons were injured at 4:17 o'clock this afternoon, when a northbound passenger train on the Ogden, Logan &. Idaho electric elec-tric interurban line collided head-on with a southbound special a short distance south of this city. The most seriously Injured is Mrs. Maude M. Lester, residing at 1502 Lincoln avenue, Salt Lake City. Mrs. Lester's kneecap was broken and she was taken to the Dee hospital at Ogden on a special train. The Injured. The northbound train had been brought nearly to a stop, but the special was running at a fair rate of speed, and it ' was on the special that, the greater number num-ber of passengers suffered injury. The trains came together with a rrash that tumbled the passengers into confused heaps and broke nearly every window in the seven .-caches. It was about an hour after the wreck before aid reached tho injured passengers, but upon the arrival of Dr. A. As soon as possible after assistance arrived ar-rived t lie injured passengers were brought to Brigham City and treated at the Brig-ham Brig-ham City general hospi tal. Later they were taken to Ogden on a special train and after additional treatment were sent to their homes. Those residing in Ogden were sent home by auto and residents of other cities left on regular trains, with the exception of Mrs. Lester, who was taken to the Dee hospital. Trainmaster W. F. Law is inclined to place the responsibility for the collision on Motorman Newton of the special, who is said to have forgotten about the regular train. Regular traffic was not resumed until about 8 o'clock this evening. J. W. EI-lingson, EI-lingson, traffic manager of the road, was In this citv when the accident occurred and went to the scene of the wreck as soon as notified. Other officials arrived later from Ozden. |
