A decided turn for Die better came today In the stock market. The selling movement which has j made sueh headway of late was checked j effectively and there was a pen era! mark- I ins up of values which readied substantial substan-tial proportions before the end of the j day. A noticeable change was the tendency ten-dency to follow up t he market on the I rise. The inquiry broadened as quotations quota-tions were advanced and the strength was maintained throughout the session-Total session-Total transactions were 825,000 shares. Improved conditions In the money market mar-ket were spoken of most frequently as a direct source of strength. Speculation has been restrained by the firmness of the money market and the doubtful outlook out-look for obtaining accommodations. This situation wus Improved by the action taken by New York bankers to stabilize the money market. The putting out of larpe sums In loans resulted in an easing eas-ing of rates. Time money was 5 to 51. per cent and call funds were loaned low as 2' per cent. Indications that announcements regarding- steel and copper prices would soon be made at Washington helped the market on its upward course. The prolonged pro-longed uncertainly in this respet t has constituted one of the main adverse influences in-fluences and the tone of Washington advices ad-vices today was so confident as to lead to buying tn expectation of an early settlement. set-tlement.
