The truth of the matter is, Happy left for South Dakota to assume his duties as coach of the football eleven at the South Dakota School of Mines. Van Pejt signed his contract last . spring. Coach Nelson Norgren of the University or Utah was the only man who was on the inside of the deal and Norgren yesterday confirmed con-firmed the information. I Van Pelt also was offered the position of coach at the Butte high school, but elected to take the South Dakota job. It is known thaL he will be called out on the draft about next January, and probably prob-ably he decided that there was no use of taking a position for the entire year. At South Dakota he will coach only the football foot-ball team, according to the present arrangement. ar-rangement. Van Pelt has been one of the stars of the Utah gridiron team for several years, and during the past twro seasons he was selected almost unanimously as end on the all-Rocky mountain conference eleven. In basketball he was equally good. He held down the job of center" on the local Crimson five for several years, and at the national tournament at Chicago two years ago was selected by Chicago critics as the star of the whole competition. As far as the track is concerned, con-cerned, . it is sufficient to say that Van Pelt could generally be relied upon to score twenty-five points in a dual meet and almost as many in" a state meet. |
