Show OGDEN CHARITY BALL IS liRGELHTTErlOED Annual Event of the Martha Mar-tha Society Is Again Pronounced Success. Special to The Tribune. OGDLN, Nov. -0. With the same spirit of patriotism that has characterized their work in war-time enterprises, nearly 1000 citizens of Ogrden supported their principal princi-pal local charity tonight by attending the tciuli annual ball of the Martha society. The brilliant social affair, which is regarded re-garded as the chief social event of the .season in this city, was given in Ber-thana Ber-thana hall. In addition to the hundreds of Ogden people, other cities of the state were represented. rep-resented. In the absence of Governor Simon Bamberger, the office was officially official-ly represented at the ball by State Auditor Au-ditor Joseph Eirle, a resident of this cltv. and the members of the governor's staff. State Auditor Ririe and Mrs. E. O. Wattis led the grand march at 9:30 o'clock. In deference to the wishes of members of the Martha society. there was a marked absence of expensive gows, although al-though members of the organization in announcing a policy of simple attire stated that it was not their intention to dictate to their guests. The inclination to keep pace with the conservation measures mea-sures of war times was accepted as a patriotic duly by a large majority of those present. As a further measure of conservation, con-servation, the usual elaborate supper was dispensed with ill favor of simple refreshments. re-freshments. As a result of the large attendance at the annual ball the Martha society will derive a substantial fund with which to maintain the new nursery which has been purchased by the organization. The tenth annual ball, in fact, marked the successful suc-cessful culmination of a ten-year plan of the society members to own their own mirscrv home. The organization has just purchased a beautiful suburban home at Washington avenue and Elizabeth street. |
