Show MEDICAL ADVISORY Dr. W. Brown Ewing to Assist As-sist Governor in Preparing Prepar-ing for Next Draft. Dr. W. Brown Ewing of this city is commissioned as an officer of the medical medi-cal reserve corps to report promptly to Governor Simon Bamberger to assist In organizing medical advisory boards to act In connection with the military draft. Ad- . vice to this effect was yesterday received at the governor's, office from General E. H. Crowder. In the telegram General Crowder calls attention to the following situation, arising aris-ing from former experience, and to the proposed remedy: The methods of physical examinations examina-tions have heretofore not been satisfactory. satis-factory. The new regulations address themselves to this fault and provide a very systematic method for removing remov-ing it. A preliminary examination is to be made by an examining physician of the local board and thus those obviously obvi-ously physically disqualified will be eliminated from the lists, but before the local board arrives at a decision as ta the physical qualification of any registrant about whose qualifications qualifi-cations there la any doubt, the physical physi-cal examination is to be conducted by experts in the most exhaustive manner man-ner possible. To this end the new regulations provide for the erection of medical advisory boards throughout the state in such number and serving such districts as may be dictated by hospital hos-pital and railroad communications and by the very important consideration of reducing to a minimum the cost to the nation that will be incurred by the necessity of sending registrants before such boards for examination. This Is a matter which requires the active co-operation arid materia! support of members of the medical profession. State representatives of the American Medical association and of the medical section of the council of national defense have offered their services and co-operation in carrvlng forward this plan, and will assist' the governor in deciding on the districts to be served, the number of boards " to be erected and the personnel of the boards. The surgeon general has agreed to call to active service all officers of-ficers of the medical reserve corps and order them to report to the governor to relieve him of as much of the mechanical me-chanical detail as possible. |
