Show GESPOffflT HIND MWMi LIFE Mrs. Marie McKinney Shoots Self, Inflicting Probably Fatal Wound. Apparently dcspomlent beoause of ill health and a fear of losing her mind, Airs. Atai-ie MoKinney, '23 years of age, wife of W. A. McKinney, a mining nion of Cokeville, Wyo.. shot herself through the left breast late yesterday afternoon, missing the heart by a narrow nar-row margin, but iuflieting a wound in the lung which may prove fatal. The shooting took jilaee in the family apartment apart-ment at 419 est South Temple street. Mrs. McKinney had been ill in bed all day, according to the story ber husband hus-band told the police at tho emergency hospital, where the woman now lies iu a precarious condition. He had telephoned tele-phoned for her in the morning to her place of employment, he said, to say she would not go to work during the day. She got out of beef and obtained the gun, McKinney told the police. McKinney said his wife was despondent despond-ent because he had decided to leave on a train at 5 o'clock for Cokeville, Wyo., where he has sonie leases on mining property. McKinney told th police that his wife purchased tho pistol several sev-eral weoks aeo because of his frequent absences from home. According to neighbors, the couple had quarreled during tho day, but McKinney Mc-Kinney denied this last night. His wife, weakened from loss of blood and suffering from shock, is said to have made a statement to the effect that McKinney had told her he cared for her no more, but he denied this la.st night. Dr. W. S. Keyting, who treated" treat-ed" the woman at the emergency hospital, hos-pital, said last night that he did not consider her condition at all promising. |
