Show LITTLE ZIDM ROAD IS SOON TO BE READY Splendid Highway to Scenic Region Expected to Be 1 Finished June 15. A perfect automobile highway, 100 miles long, from Lund, on the Los Angeles An-geles & Salt Lako railroad, to beautiful Little Zion canyon in southorn Utah, will be completed in May or June, according ac-cording to William Warner, A. G. 1 & P. A., Salt Lake Route, who was one o the party of fifteen who returned yesterday from a trip to the canyon. The present road of 103 miles is excellent, ex-cellent, save for a very few spots. The party made the trip in three big machines ma-chines without tire trouble or single mishap. W. W. Wylie of the Wylie Way camping camp-ing service in the Yellowstone national park, Mrs. Wylie, Clinton Wylie and Miss Margaret J. McCartney, "who for years was in charge of the 350 Wylie employees in Yellowstone, were f"our who went to Zion canyon to investigate the possibilities for establishing a Wylie Way service to this wonderful district. They were greatly impressed with the opportunities there and delighted with the region. "The Zion canyon district is magnificent magnifi-cent and beautiful, and amazingly accessible' ac-cessible' said Mr. Wylie. "1 am delighted de-lighted with it it is most unique to drive right onto the floor of this canyon can-yon to a good camping trround and gaze np at the towering cliffs. Tho region is tranquil and charming and not re-pellant re-pellant or severe. " Mr. Warner of the Salt Lake Boute said: I am profoundly impressed with the Zion canyon. Its accessibility surprises me the 100-mile trip is a pleasure all the way. I never before be-fore realized that a party in a machine ma-chine could leave Lund at 10 o'clock in the morning and reach Zion canyon can-yon before dark with the roads in good condition, as will easily be possible when the road work is finished. fin-ished. The United States government govern-ment has a large force of men at work in Zion canyon inside the national na-tional monument, building a sixteen-foot highway under direction of Engineer Morgan, who has built roads in Rainier national park, repaired re-paired the second break of the Colorado Colo-rado river in Imperial valley, etc. The state of Utah is using" a big camp of convicts on the state's portion por-tion of the highway. Washington county and the citizens of the little towns en route will also do their sharp, to complete a splendid automobile auto-mobile highway early this summer. An abundance of fruit and vegetables vegeta-bles and supplies of all kinds is assured as-sured from the fertile farms of the region. The season for tourists in Zion can-von can-von region is double the length of that in the Yellowstone, owing to the soft, mild climate of southern Utah. Plans are now being made for a great gathering gather-ing of motorists at the opening of the season early this summer, when Salt Lake Cityt Los Angeles and two score smaller cities in Utah, Nevada and California Cali-fornia will send motorists to celebrate the official opening of Utah's marvelous marvel-ous scenic region. |
