Show AUDITOR AVERS CITY IS LOSK SUM Report Submitted Showing Alleged Losses Resulting ! From Meter System. In a report submitted to the city commission com-mission last night, E. A. Bock, city auditor, arraigned the meter system of water tax assessment as being ineffective and unfair under the present meter rates. With an array of figures covering two closely typewritten pages, the auditor led up to his final conclusions, which are to the effect that the city has suffered a comparative loss of $1u3.00ij in the last four years as a result of the operation and increase of the meter system. This loss, he figures, is divided as follows: fol-lows: $00, 000 in failure of consistent Increase In-crease in revenue and $53,000 in Increased expense beyond what he avers would have been the case had the meters not been used. This, he points out, has obtained in sptfe of the higher record established in collections. During the four years the collections have advanced from 8S.9 per cent of the i tota.1 assessment to 9S per cent, according I to the report of the auditor, netting a total to-tal saving of $57,053. In spite of this saving, the auditor argues, the increase in revenue is far short of what U should be. Mayor Ferry ordered the report referred re-ferred to the waterworks department, without any objection from any member of tho commission. |
