Such a sensible arraignment of this youthful-faced crook, who is, in conjunction conjunc-tion with a clever attorney, trying to excite the populace at this time, is Indeed In-deed opportune, and must, with the sober, thinking people of this state, have a very-good very-good effect. As one of those intimately connected with t be events' which happened on the night of Brewer's murderous visit to the Highland Store, permit me to offer some information. As Brewer entered the room in which one of our employees at that time was engaged in writing a letter, he (Brewer) nearly committed another murder, when Raleigh, the man who was commanded to hold up his hands, failed to act as fast ; as Brewer desired, and had it not been i for the coolness of his partner, De Pretto, it is a question whether this rattlebrained rattle-brained Brewer would ever have gotten far enough to have reached Allen, so crazy was he to use the weapon in his hand on the man Raleigh: only another indication that if lie is given the least rope lie will kill, so sure as the sun rises, for it is a certainty in his sy.stem, as evidence the case in Memphis, when Brewer gave up only after all his ammunition am-munition was exhausted, ami, with a smoklns revolver in his hand, he heM the patrol load of policemen off until hr- !i;id to give In to nave his own worthless life. When Allen appeared in the window on the Ftairway and surprised Hrewer working work-ing at the -vault door, AUcm'k i-fW was thrust so far through the window Hint It was impossible U, wil hdraw quickly, so that when Brewer noled his presence A he naturally had a good opportunity Jf cover Allen with his gun, and for a h: , riod of at least thirty seconds tliv par- , leyed through this window, and, the attitude atti-tude of Allen being so deliani, Brewer knew he had to shoot to p.scape, as lie certainly did, for lie tried to shoot right for the heart, but just missed by the fraction of an inch, and. though mortally mortal-ly wounded, Allen was able to crawl up several stairs and onto a landing, where lie curled up In a heap. Brewer followed right through this window and up the same stairs, and stepped over the body of Allen, and opened up his gun again on the mortally wounded man twice more to make sure that he was doing a good job-Brewer job-Brewer certainl completed his work well, for Allen died in my arms just a few minutes after. Brewer, deserves just the sentence wldch has been imposed, and it is sin- cerely to be hoped that the reasonable press of tliis state will not overlook tiie opportunity to appear on the side, of law and order when stories are to be printed j with regard to this youthful-faced crook. I Again thanking you for vour able arti- : clo. I am, J. K. ZWICKY. I Bingham Canyon. Utah, Oct. 2. 1JU6. |
