Show 8 HOURS WITHOUT REDUCTION IN PAY CHICAGO. Oct. 2. Simultaneously with the announcement tonight that 20,000 employees em-ployees of the Wholesale Clothiers association asso-ciation here would receive a reduction in working: hours, without loss of pay, a voluntary waste increase of 2' cents an hour for employees of the operating departments de-partments 0.11 over the United States was announced bv Wilson & Co., Armour & Co.; Swift & Co., Libby, McNeil it Co. and Morris Kr Co. tonight. The increases granted by the packers will affect 60,000 men emploved in the bit? packing centers, while about 20,000 will be benefited by the reduction of hours in the clothing trades from fifty to forty-eight a week. To the packers, the increase will mean an additional -pay roll of $-1,000,000 a year. The action of hoth the garment makers and the packers was voluntary, it was announced. an-nounced. In neither case was there threat of labor-difficulties. |
