Show PROPER ADDRESSES ON LETTERS DESIRED Department at Washington Asks Cooperation Co-operation of Postmasters in Correcting Cor-recting Common Fault. The active co-operation of Postmaster Noble Warnim is requested by the post-office post-office authorities in Washington in an effort to relieve the postal service of the burden imposed bv the growing evil of incompletely and improperly addressed ad-dressed mail. The delivery of letters, especially in the large cities, according to the postal authorities, is frequently delayed and oftentimes made impossible by the omission omis-sion of an important part of the address, such as the street number or room number num-ber when addressed to ans office building. build-ing. Not infrequently the name of the street is omitted, only the name of the postoffice and state being given. Another source of trouble is the practice prac-tice of giving an address at the intersection inter-section of two streets without giving the location of the corner, for in some large cities a number of carrier routes may terminate at that point, or it may ; be the dividing line between the respective respec-tive territories of the main postoffice and a station, or between two stations, making it difficult for the distributers to determine to which carrier the mail should be thrown. Hereafter, when the delivery of mail is delayed on account of insufficient address, that fact will be stamped on the face of the mail. |
