Naylor, county treasurer, from collecting from McCornick & Co., bankers, taxes iu excess ex-cess of $8172.75 was filed yesterday by the banking company. Under the appraisement ap-praisement made by A. H. Parsons, county assessor, the total levy against the bank for taxes this year if-as $20,-191.20. $20,-191.20. It is set forth in the complaint that the bank's stock was assessed at $1S3 a share, whereas the plaintiff contends that it should have been assessed at not more than $127. BS a share. The right of the assessor to assess against what is termed as the "good will" of the institution is challenged. The plaintiff claims to have paid the amount of taxes admitted, $8-172.75. Service of the action brought against the county treasurer to enjoin him front collecting' the difference between the amount admitted and the amount levied was accepted yesterday afternoon by H. L. Mulliner, county attorney. An early hearing of the case is expected in the "interest of its significance on tax matters with regard to banking property. |
