Show AGGIE HOOPERS ARE BUIUliUP TEAM Engagement of Joe Jenson as Basketball Coach Proves Popular. Special to The Tribune. LOGAN, Jan. 13. Much interest centers cen-ters in the basketball activity at the Agricultural college since it became certain cer-tain that Coach J. It. Jenson is to take over tho responsibility of training the hoop squad, as Jenson 's wide rauge of basketball experience makes him a favorite fa-vorite with the Aggie students and backers. During the past week Jenson has not done any active work at the .Aggie camp, but has been busy making mak-ing observations, while Coach Vatson has taken charge of the basketball squad. It is expected that Jenson will soon assume the burden of rounding out a team, as he is, by this time, thoroughly thorough-ly acquainted with conditions. The AggieH have a lightning fast squad this season and all the men are J ambitious for a berth on the regular team, consequently they will need some i close attention from the coaches. j Interest Grows. Since Jenson moved to the A. C. the hoopers have taken additional interest, as both Coaches Watson and Jenson havo commanding personalities and have won the favor of every student in school. Jenson comes to the Aggies at an opportune time, as he has had ffreat success with a squad of fast B. Y. C. players. During the week Captain Brig Johnson John-son has shown up for some of the work as Johnson feels that Jenson 'b in-; struction "would be a greater inducement induce-ment to hirn than his present position as coach of the North Cache high school. Evans of Lehi high school has proved to .be a first-rate forward and Tommy McMullen is equally fast, and both have a good eye for the .basket. Dick Kapple alternates between guard and forward positions. He seems to be a better" man at guaxd than at forward and will likely be stationed there permanently. per-manently. Doug Smith, who worked as a guard last season, seems to be a firstrstring candidate for his old job. Dave Cox, who played on Joe Jenson 'a B. Y. C. team tho last two years, is pressing for a guard station. Turtle and MidCay are both in line for the pivot position, with each man having ft peculiar advantage. Barrus, Gard-enar Gard-enar and Neeley, all freshmen, appear to havo very good chances oi making positions on the team. Talk Track Prospects. "While basketball occupies the attention atten-tion of both coaches and students, the coaches are beginning to think of plans to arouse interest iu track work and also football. Nothiuer definite baa vet een announced in this way, except that a number of hWb school stars will be added to the string of next year's athletes, Some of tho high school stars from Salt Lake entered school last week, at the college ajid are highly pleased with tho institution and also with Coach "Watson. The Aggie authorities are making some very good inducements for others to come "along. Coach Jenson has also lined up a large number of his former track and basketball men, who will be a big asset to the Aggies next year. All of them are very enthusiastic about coming to the school, judging from their own expressions. |
