Show BONNEVILLE CLUB TO i ra SCHOOL Mass Meeting to Be Held on Lincoln's Birthday to Encourage En-courage Attendance. The chief observance of Lincoln 's birthday in Salt Lake will be the mass meeting to be conducted in the interest of increasing tbe attendance at the night schools being conducted for adult foreigners. While tbe primary purpose of the school is to prepare for citizenship for- 1 cign persons who are contemplating nat-; nat-; uralization. the schools axe also open ' to other foreigners. I Practically all the fraternal and pa-! pa-! triotie organizations are lending support sup-port to the movement to increase the ; attendance at the night schools. It is ; supported as well by the city board of ! education, the Bonneville club and the 1 city commission. ! The programme for the mass meeting, which is to be held in the Auditorium, i was outlined yesterday afternoon at a ! meeting of the general committee com-j com-j prised of representatives of the various interested organizations, in the office of Mayor WMont Ferry. The high school band is to bo requested re-quested to assist in furnishing music for the occasion. Former Governor William Wil-liam Spry will be the principal speaker at the meeting, and Governor Simon Bamberger will act as chairman. Mayor Ferry will call the meeting to order and introduce Governor Bamberger. Bamber-ger. Paul Armstrong will explain the purpose of the night schools as well as of the meeting. Then Mr. Spry will make an appeal to those present to lend their efforts to the promotion of interest inter-est in tbe schools as a means to better citizenship among the foreign-born. It is planned that the programme shall be short and that tiresome features shall be avoided. Excellent music is to be one of its features. Musicians of various nationalities of known ability will contribute to the quality of this part of the programme. The general committee is planning to have on hand souvenirs to be given out to all who attend the meeting. The j prospect of success is regarded by the i committee as most excellent, since the various organizations of the city are lending their sincere support. The night schools are being conducted con-ducted under the direction of the city board of education, teachers of the regular reg-ular school force serving as the instructors. |
