Daughter of Henry Phipps la Sister-in-law of Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. - Special Cable to The Tribune. LONDON, Feb. 0. Americana are expected to figure prominently in Dublin society when Lord Wim-borne Wim-borne takes his post as Lord Lieutenant Lieu-tenant of Ireland. It is admitted that Wimborne owes his position to his cousin Winston Spencer Churchill, first lord of the admiralty, whose mother, Lady Randolph Churchill, was Miss Jennie Jen-nie Jerome of New York City. Lord Wimborne has two American Bisters-in-law, the Hon. Mrs, Frederick Guest and the Hon. Mrs. Lionel Guest. They will both be 6een a great deal in Dublin, it is expected. 1 Mrs. Frederick Guest is a daughtrt of Henry Phipps, and Mrs. Lionel Guest is a daughter of John Bigelow, once American minister at Paris. Lady Wimborne has been one of the leaders of smart society for a dozen years and is well fitted to do her share of the duties of the vice royalty, especially espe-cially as her husband is rich and has sporting tastes. She has gone to St. Moritz, Switzerlandj to brace up for the Dublin castle activities, which will begin be-gin about the end of February. Lord Granard never really had the slightest chance of getting the Dublin post when Lord Wimborne, with his powerful family connections, oegan pulling pull-ing the strings. Moreover, the' Protestant Protes-tant alliance openly antagonized Granard because he is a Catholic, although under un-der the new home-rule bill the legal disqualification dis-qualification has been removed. |
