Show LOCAL securities. Following is the weekly trade and finance letter of John C. Cutler, Jr.: General business conditions throughout the United States are showing moderate improvement. The foreign business is growing with a favorable balance in favor of this noun try. It is expected that this year, 1915, will be prosperous for manv of our institutions on account of the unusually large demand, for their products from abroad. Then the large orders that have been received for our wheat, sugar and other foodstuffs will be beneficial to the larmers. With wheat at $1.50 -per bushel there is no wonder that President Wilson is advising the farmers of the nation to raise wheat the coming season! From present Indications the great demand for American foodstuffs will continue until the terrible European wa r ends. In Utah the splendid snowstorm during dur-ing the week was gratifying to the farmers, farm-ers, the stockgrowers, and to the whole business community. The retail demand for seasonable goods continues, while the wholesale demand for spring lines is increasing. The annual meeting of the stockholders stockhold-ers of the Home Fire InatTrance company was held this week ancr directors were elected. The report of the business of the company is encouraging. , The assets amount to $1,054,488.55. The reserves for taxes, losses and reinsurance amount to S113.4S4.58, the balance surplus comes to $641,004.02 and the capital stock amounts to $300,000. Directors were also elected at the annual meeting of the Hotel Utah Operating company, it has been decided to move the Knight sugar factory from Canada to Layton, Utah. i The prices of several local securities show advances lately, whlcji have been brought about by Improved financial conditions con-ditions and a better outlook for trade the coming spring and summer. .
