U " , " j 1 The Dental Trust is trying lr i to put through a bill which t V" ,t J may be used as a club to h subdue dentists who are not V in accord with the so-called "ethics" of their profession. " Tljis bill, if passed, gives the ' members of the State Dental p. ' ' Board (three of whom prac- 1 -Y " ' tice dentistry in Salt Lake I ? ; " City) the authority to enter I u e f and examine my dental of- 1 -Cf S J flees, and if they find any- I " " thing unsanitary in said office they may revoke my license. I r' I do not fight this bill be- cause I do not favor sanitary dental offices, but because of I the judicial power this bill gives the members of the State Dental Board. They will become judge and jury on examining exam-ining my office and state that in some particular they find my office unsanitary. Think of the power this bill gives them. I know of no dental office in this city that is so dirty that the dentist's license should be revoked, and I doubt if there is one. Any individual who understands the study of bacteriology will agree with me when I say that there is not a house, a building or an office of any descrip-a descrip-a tion but which upon microscopical examination can be J proven to be unsanitary. The word unsanitary is a broad word; its meaning can be stretched so that it may cover a great field. The joker in this bill, although bidden on the face of the bill, is easily discernible to me, as it furnishes the State Dental Board a club, under the guise of a law, I with which to eliminate me and my office. If the Trust can put me out, as they have stated that they would, they can control the prices on dental work and regulate them at their own free will. I know that I take precautions in every department of my offices to see that the utmost cleanliness be found, and insist that all instruments and appliances be properly sterilized. I These dentists, who are my competitors, who practice 1 dentistry in this city, will, if this bill becomes a law, be 1 furnished with a means to eliminate any dentist they wish. I I am a firm believer in sanitation, sanitation in the highest I degree, and for that reason I have in my office one large I room which is set aside for the sole purpose of the proper sterilization of instruments. In this office there is employed a dental nurse whose sole duty it is to see. that every instrument instru-ment is properly sterilized after every operation, not just i dipped in water, but put into an electric sterilizer aud ster-j ster-j ilized. This bill would not harm me if the power were not ! put into the hands of the dentists who have constantly j threatened to run me out of Utah. Look at this bill again. IYou may say, "Well, who is going to examine the offices of the members of the Dental Board'-" Oh, of course the members of the board will tell you their offices won't need examining because they are members of the Dental Board. IYet I have had patients tell me that they have been in one office of a member of this same Dental Board and the room was filled with the rank fumes of a vitrid smelling cigarette, and this same member of the board uses his operating room for his smoking room at random, and then preaches sanitation sanita-tion as a pretext for the protection of "The Dear Peepul," when really all they want is sonie means of ousting me. I intend to fight this bill just as I have fought the Dental Trust. I do not believe that our State Legislators will vote in favor of such legislation when they understand j the true meaning and underlying power which this bill I gives the State Dental Board. If the Trust can uphold this bill, let it come out in the press and do so. a .
