Show CHIEF GRANT IN CONTEMPT ACTION Another Phaso of Portola Oafo Controversy Contro-versy Brought Forward By E. W. Allon. An alternative writ of mandate, citing' cit-ing' B. F. Grant, chief of police, before be-fore tho supreme court to show cause why ho should not be punished for contempt, con-tempt, was issued out of that court yesterday yes-terday on application of E. "W. Allen, propriotor of tho Portola cafe. The writ is returnable Monday morning at 10 o'clock. Tho chief is alleged to be guilty of contempt because or tbe arrest of 0. F. Blunkonship, manager of the cafo, last Saturday night on a charge of operating operat-ing without a liquor license. The- license of the Portola was revoked re-voked bv tho district court on application appli-cation oV the city about three weeks ago. Alleu filed' notico of appeal, w-ith an appeal bond. It is his contention conten-tion that this appeal bond restrained the chief of police from interfering with the btisinetvS and stayed tho judgment judg-ment of the district court pending the appeal. Aftor the filing of the appeal bond, it is averred, the matter rested with the supreme court, nnd the chief of police is in contempt of that court .for having caused the arrest of Blank-I Blank-I enship. |
